Workshop of Food

■ Let's think about our modern food life

Our goal for this work shop was to enhance the participant’s interest on what we eat every day through thinking about the food additives, which is indispensable for our daily life, and how we can get along with them..

We started the work shop with self introduction. We made pares and introduced each other’s name. Then we wrote questions related to food on the previously distributed sheet and asked each other those questions. Although the participants spoke different languages, they looked happy communicating with gestures.

Then the participants made six groups and each group became a “frozen hamburger” company. Each group discussed about the topic, such as what the ingredients for the hamburger are and how much they will pay for the ingredients. Each group also demonstrated the way they sell the product they had made. After all these group works, each group checked how much food additive they had used for the frozen hamburger and figured out that most of the groups used many food additives. What was very interesting was that when we made a popularity poll, the most popular hamburger was the one with little cost on ingredients and a lot on advertisement.

Finally, we took picture of the hamburgers we made.

We hope this work shop to become a cue to rethink about the food we eat every day, whenever the participants remember about the serious and fun discussions they had done on food additive and about the strategy to sell the hamburgers.
